BERNIE ELZER III
We listen to our business partners, figure out what their needs are and we adapt. We don’t make them fit into a cookie-cutter box. For over 50 years, our vision has been to provide high-quality print solutions with unparalleled attention to detail, utilizing cutting-edge technology and delivering personalized customer service at a competitive price.
Grafika Was Founded
Grafika is founded in 1963 by Bernard J. Elzer, Sr., and two local artists, Rudolph M. Mosteller, and William A. Kreitler. Theirs is – quite literally – the archetypal “American business started in the basement story.” With some luck and lots of pluck, the partners succeed in transforming a simple ping pong table into a rudimentary screen printer, and a business is born.
New Ownership
In 1978, Berkshire International (and subsequently, VF Corporation) purchases the business, which is known as Grafika Commercial Arts, Inc. During this time period, Grafika experiences tremendous growth and begins offering quality offset printing and related services.
Bernard Elzer, Jr.
Bernie Elzer, Sr. retires and Bernie Elzer, Jr. takes over as president. The company conducts business as Grafika Commercial Printing, and is at the cutting edge of the printing industry.
Consumer Packaging
Grafika makes the strategic decision to focus and build consumer packaging as one of its major core competencies. Additionally, Grafika embraces CTP (Computer To Plate) Technology. This marks the end of film and the beginning of color management technology.
Bernard Elzer, III
Bernard Elzer, III purchases the business from Bernard Elzer, Jr., who retires from the business. Bernie begins in his capacity as majority shareholder and President & CEO, lending three generations of leadership and experience to the business. His customer-centric focus and drive for innovation set up the business for steady growth.
Becoming a Market Leader
Grafika enters the next phase as a market leader in the consumer packaging industry with the investment in a new Koenig & Bauer Rapida 106 X high speed press. Our press will be one of the most sophisticated 106 presses in the country based on all the technological advances we have built into the press. The 106 X can run up to 20,000 sheets per hour. It will be equipped with the most advanced logistics technology and a vision system that will maintain color consistency and inspect each printed sheet for any defects guaranteeing our customers that every sheet is printed to their exact specifications.
Building Our Future Today
We are poised to be a packaging manufacturer that exceeds the needs of our customers. Grafika is working on new and innovative automation and robotic upgrades that will reduce our overall cost structure keeping us as market competitive as possible for today and long into the future.
